Charitable Endowment Funds
Great giving options, choose the one that's right for you!

Community Fund (Discretionary or Unrestricted Funds). Donors can use their gift to meet ever-changing community needs - including future needs that often cannot be anticipated at the time a gift is made. The Foundation evaluates all aspects of the community well - being - arts and culture, education, environment, health and social services, youth, and more. The flexibility of a Discretionary / Unrestricted gift makes it possible to respond to the community's most pressing needs, today and tomorrow.

Named Funds. Community foundations offer donors of significant gifts an opportunity to be recognized in perpetuity through a fund named for the donor, family, corporation, association, deceased person, honouree, event or other entity. The purpose of the fund may vary depending upon the wishes of the donor(s) or honouree.

Field of Interest Funds. Donors can target their gift to address needs in an important area of community life. The Arts, Education, Environment, Health, Seniors or Youth, to give a few examples. The donor identifies their personal interest area when making the gift; the Foundation's board awards grants to community groups and programs that are making a difference in the area that the donor selects.

Designated Funds. Donors can direct their gift to a specific charity or issue area. Help provide ongoing funding for a senior centre, museum, church, or virtually any nonprofit charitable organization. The donor identifies the recipient that they wish to benefit through their gift; the Foundation board and staff manages the annual distribution of funds.

Donor Advised Funds. Donors can have ongoing involvement in the use of their gift. Donors work with the Foundation's Grants Committee and staff, identifying ways to use dollars from the Donor Advised Fund to address the issues and needs the donor cares about most. The donor's recommendations are submitted to the Foundation's board for approval; the Foundation then distributes grant award dollars.

Agency Endowment Funds. An attractive option for local charities that may currently manage or are interested in establishing their own endowment fund. An AEF through the Peninsula Community Foundation makes it easy and efficient to create and manage a permanent endowment for the local agency. The agency and community donors build the fund. The Foundation takes care of the rest.

Awards (Scholarship & Bursary) Funds. A wonderful option for donors wishing to enable deserving students to continue their education. Donors can specify broad or narrow eligibility requirements, provided that they are fair and legitimate (within the human rights legislations). They can be established for any level of education. Often donors specify the schools the students are to come from or the ones they attend, choose a field of study, or require the recipients to practice their profession in the community for a stated time.

Administrative Operating Endowment Fund. A fund created to offset the operating and program expenses for the community foundation. Often created by the community and board members in partnership of building the foundation's capacity to build community.
